~Trans-Siberian Railway 2005~

~The 6th Day~

Feb. 11 2005 (Fri)
The 4th day of the Trans-Siberian Railway

I wonder the human adaptability. It took a week to travel from Moscow to Beijin, and the time difference is 5 hours. Because we would enter Mongolia whose time zone is same as Beijin in the 5th day, we just had to adjust to a 5-hour time change in 5 days so as to avoid the jet lag. That is, all we had to do was go to bed an hour early day by day. So we were trying it, and I awoke at 5 o'clock after going to bed at 8 p.m. yesterday. We seem to be able to adapt to environmental changes if we want to do so. But it's strange that we became sleepy and could sleep in the night despite we spent most of time in our room and seldom walked, and what we did was drink, eat and sleep. How did we consume the energy?

Even so, I think that our lives on the train might be more self-indulgent than NEET. We would not return to society if we travel by this train after we start to work. I think it was good for us to travel before the graduation.

The stops of today would be Malinsk, Bogotol, Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ilanskaya, Tayshet, Nizhneudinsk, Zima and Angarsk stations.

Krasnoyarsk
Krasnoyarsk This is Krasnoyarsk station. Though it was cold in the morning, we had already acclimatized the coldness. I bought water at a kiosk but the staff gave me sparkling water though I said "No gas". Because I noticed it after purchasing, I decided to wait for loosing carbonation by vibration of the train.
The restaurant car again

We went to the restaurant car because we had talked to eat the other meal, solianca. Then the solianca is dry meat and dry cereal... It was misterias, and the taste was poor. And then, the group of Russian still ate other meals.

Incidentally, the conductors cooked something using a charcoal stove in an empty room despite the passengers had difficurly obtaining foods. The strange Chinese music still began. Then they were mysterious conductors.

Nizhneudinsk
NizhneudinskNizhneudinsk

This is Nizhneudinsk station. The time was 16:30 in Moscow time, and the local time was 21:30. It's a shame that the picture misses the point but It has a good mood. This mood can't be shared in Japan. There was a thermometer in the main station in Russia as the right-hand picture, and it was -18 degrees C then. We didn't feel so cold if the temperature was above -20 degrees C because we had already acclimatized the coldness.

As you know if you look pictures until here, the window of this train was very dirty. Then the pictures also show the grime even if I took pictures. So Mr. K started to wipe the window with wet tissues from the platform because we wanted it to work. However, because of the coldness of -18 degrees C, the wet tissues and the window froze just after he wiped, and he couldn't wipe so much. But it became cleaner than before, and we could see outside better. I thanked him.

It had already passed four days after taking the train. We were enjoying though the conversation topics were looping. Many things also happened today. The old man sharing the room with me gave us instant soups. We gave him a paste-type instant miso soup, Japanese traditional soup, in appreciation for it, and then he put it on a bread and ate it. Because we bought vodka and so on, a staff of the refreshment trolley might think we were good costomers and looked in our room every time she passed through in front of our room.

And we drank volka, of course. I drank it straight at first but it was too strong. Then I mixed juice with it and made cocktail but the taste was too bad to drink. Finally, we concluded it was the best to drink it straight. It would be also good to drink it on the rocks.
